Delay of work on Ho-Adidome-Sogakope road “unacceptable”

Ho, Dec. 13, GNA - Mr Prosper Bani, the Chief of Staff, has described as, “unacceptable” the slow pace of work on the Ho-Adidome-Sogakope road.

He said it was unfair that the contractors, had since September failed to make good their commitment to complete work on the road by the end of the year.

Mr Bani, therefore, summoned all three contractors working on the about 48-kilometre road, the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Highway Authority to a meeting at the Flagstaff House next week.

Addressing the media after a fact finding tour of the road at the instance of President John Dramani Mahama, on Friday, the Chief of Staff said the travelling public could not be left to continue to suffer and the government would not accept any excuses from the contractors.

Only Essuyah and Jah-Nicorf construction limited were on site between Adaklu and Adidome at the time of the tour.

Mr Divine Quashigah, Resident Engineer for the project, said PMC, the other construction company, had not been on site since September.

Mr Bani said a monitoring team would be set up to regularly brief the government on the actual progress of work on the projects.

Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Minister of Roads and Highways, said it was surprising that not much work was done on the Ho-Adidome-Sogakope road since his visit to the site in September.

The team, including officials from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Volta Regional Minister and her Deputy, some Members of Parliament and District Chief Executives, earlier toured the Eastern Corridor road.
